G7 POLITICAL PARTY LEADERS. KENNETH IBE-KALU CELEBRATES GOV GANDUJE ON HIS RERUN WIN
BEING A TEXT OF PRESS CONFERENCE IN RESPECT OF THE CONCLUSION OF THE RERUN ELECTION IN KANO STATE BY G7 POLITICAL PARTY LEADERS.
Gentlemen of the press, ladies and Gentlemen
We the G7 made up of National Chairmen of political Parties do hereby state as follows:
That we arrived Kano State on 7th March 2019 to mobilize support for our candidates for the 9th March Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
To advocate for cooperation of all stakeholders, and commitment to peaceful, credible and transparent exercise.
That in the cause of the process, the election were declared inconclusive by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
That we have remained in Kano for third weeks running which afforded us the opportunity to interface with some political parties and stakeholders.
OUR OBSERVATIONS
The post 9th March activities and processes of political parties continued and we had no record of intra-party clashes in any form whatsoever.
The rerun reports from our various Party agents and other reliable sources confirm that there were minor conflicts before the commencement of voting in few areas of the twenty eight local governments where rerun took place. However situations were quickly contained by security forces.
We can reliably confirm that the rerun recorded large turnout of voters and voting processes took place peacefully throughout the local Governments concerned. All voters were given the opportunity to vote for candidates of their choice.
OUR ADMONITION
We call on all the good people of kano state to eschew any call to violence by any political leader (s); political groupings within or outside kano state bearing in mind that in any contest, a winner will always emerge.
We call on all political leaders and stakeholders to desist from inciting its supporters to take law into their hands as a result of the outcome of the election and urge them to use democratic mechanism provided by law to resolve any issues other than violence. This way they will be contributing towards fostering and enriching our democracy in Nigeria. Furthermore, conceding defeat and congratulating winners in election is an instrument of peace and socio-economic development that politicians are yet to fully exploit for our common good, we urge all parties to set the pace for leaders of tomorrow.
The peace loving people of kano state should resist any call to violence rather we urge you to be determined to secure the state and close ranks with the winner of this election, the Governor-elect, His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje OFR to move the state forward; good governance is a shared responsibility.
We call on CUPP to refrain from overheating the system through some unconfirmed reports with an intent to encourage and promote chaos as can be seen in so many its press releases across all states were rerun took place yesterday. Democracy is a system of government where the citizens exercise power of voting and not war.
In conclusion, we use this medium to formally congratulate Kano State Governor-Elect, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje OFR for emerging winner of the 2019 Governorship election and equally call on him to be magnanimous in victory. We urge him to emulate Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR who has consistently promise inclusiveness moving forward.
We pray to Almighty God to grant him the wisdom to move kano state to greater prosperity of all.
We also congratulate all winners of the rerun election irrespective of Party affiliations and as well urge them to concentrate in providing the desired dividends of democracy for their citizens.
We thank the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, the Nigeria Police and all security agencies for their role in ensuring peaceful conduct of elections.
We therefore thank all political parties, candidates, Local and International observers for their roles in making the excise peaceful.
Finally, we thank the good people of Kano state for their maturity and good conduct throughout the rerun elections.
Thank you all
Kenneth Ibe-Kalu
Leader, G7
