CYBER CRIME - An Article By Reuben Irabor (El_reuben)

As an individual, have you ever wanted to compromise at a point or stage in your life?
As you reflect on this question I want to indulge you and expand on things you already know or might not know about cyber crime.ill hit the nail on the head, I don’t want to bore you with a lengthy write up, so without further ado, what is cyber crime? Cyber crime is any criminal activity that involves a computer, networked device or a network. Cyber crime is a fraudulent act where computers or other devices are integral to the offence , with that said , examples of cyber crimes include online fraud, identity theft , cyber stalking, bullying just to mention a few. It has become very rampant in so many parts of the world.

Allow me to create a local angle to this subject matter. Here in Nigeria it can be identified with names such as “yahoo” “g” I’m sure you know other names for it. This fraudulent act  is popular among the youths.  People or persons usually involved in this act often make 30 times the amount that an average salary earner makes , you don’t mind going back to line 1 in this write up dont  you? Who wouldn’t want to compromise and go into the act …as a result of the fact that it is a productive act that one can generate liquidity from. Only a principled person wouldn’t go into such act.

People go into such act for a number a reasons ; one is because they have been pressured at a point or another both by their peers who are often times involved in the act and situations, some persons get involved because  they want to flaunt their ill gotten wealth, show off and so on and what have you, some even justify their actions with a cliché sentence saying ‘’ they are bringing back  money which was  taken away from them by the colonial masters or bringing back into the country, this statement is their mantra.

How they do it ; most times they take on the identity of another person on a social platform then fake stories, documents and situations , often time the victims are always the people  at the receiving end which are called the ‘’clients’’ (the persons who are getting scammed).
Cyber crime has a detrimental effect on the society and on the individual involved most times. When a country is known for cyber crime and fraudulent acts it actually defaces it and creates a bad and appalling image for the country on an international platform or on the international map.
One negative effect that cyber crime has on the society is that it shuts the door of decency and morality in the sense that if one person is involved in the act and then he/she is getting some form of returns or liquidity another person will want to get involved in the act and so it becomes rampant.

Everything works so something was work for you as an individual. Your first idea might not always be the best at times but one shouldn’t settle for cyber crime or fraudulent acts at the end of the day. If everyone that faced a hindrance, obstacle or challenge at one point or another in life decided to settle for cyber crime or fraudulent acts, I’m sure the world will not be as it is today.
