Uyo International Theatre and Film Festival is primarily conceived as an annual forum for the amplification of the symbiosis of African Theatre and Film. Endorsed by the National Film and Video Censors Board and National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), the Festival is designated to draw global attention to and propagate developmental structures for the indigenous performance culture. This is the initial tangible effort at celebrating film practice in South-South region of Nigeria within a festival experience. Most significantly, UTAFF is the first ever, joint theatre/film festival in Nigeria. This maiden edition of Uyo International Theatre and Film Festival is
billed to celebrate African Theatre and Cinema; with public Film Screening and Theatre performances, production workshops, MediaMart, Arts Exhibition, Industry interactions and Awards.
As a leading “theatre/film” festival in Nigeria, UTAFF will continue to exist as a premier site for increasing professional interactions and development that border on live performances and media arts. We are hosting a wide variety of conferences, workshops and allied resource development initiatives. The festival offers an engaging but pragmatic interface that guarantees robust performative showcase and industry market for both aspiring practitioners and veterans in the creative sector.
Christened after the hosting city of Uyo, the festival will definitely illuminate the creative and social space of Uyo and Akwa Ibom State. I wish to use this medium to call on the people and government of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria to register their support towards the successful hosting of the festival. I particularly appeal to the Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the executive Governor of the hosting state to patronize Uyo International Theatre and Film Festival as a pragmatic platform capable of engendering enviable political and entrepreneurial interactions.
Thank you so much distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the Press for your attention and truly being the fourth estate of the realm.
