NATIONAL UNITY: ONE MILLION LIVES WAS LOST TO ENSURE WE STAY UNITED – Bimbo Daramola
Nigerians have been urged to embrace peace as the unity of the nation is nonnegotiable. This assertion was reiterated by Hon. Bimbo Daramola; a leading gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State 2018 Gubernatorial Election over the weekend while speaking with newsmen at the burial of Prince Akinola Moses Daramola at Ikere-Ekiti.
Speaking on the controversial NGO Bill proposed by the National Assembly, Hon. Bimbo Daramola stated that about Ninety-five percent of the people who are criticizing the bill have not taken time to go through the details of the proposed bill. He advised stakeholders and commentators on the bill to get a copy of the bill before the public hearing to take a cursory look at the details before the 3rd and final reading at the floor of the house after which it might be passed to law if the bill scales through.
The congressman while speaking declared that certain financial tracking have been done to discover that funds from several sources across the world going to the account funding the activities of Nnamdi Kanu and his cohorts need to be regulated.
“We cannot sit and watch organizations like that IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu threatening our national unity and in the same vein, several NGOs who have collected money from international, national and individual donors in the name of Northeast region which have ended up in private pockets with little or nothing out of the resources raised been used for the purposed for which it was raised.”
“The bill seeks to ensure that NGOs and the proponents of the organizations are more accountable and regulated with their activities known to all, and I believe a legitimate and honest organization wouldn’t be afraid of this move”, the gubernatorial aspirant in the July 14, 2018 Ekiti State Election stated.
The former member of the Federal House of Representatives at the 7th Assembly also expressed his opinion on the Anti-Hate Speech campaign of the Federal Government; he said that within the freedom that people can exercise as human beings, there must also be an ability to self-censor. Also speaking he said that it is not ordinarily good for anybody to talk about anything that will lead to the dismemberment of this country.
“On restructuring, a whole lot of people have different interpretation about it; some people see it as disintegration of the nation along the line of ethnicity but do you know that the price for our unity have been paid for by one million citizens who lost their lives during the Nigerian Civil war between 1967-1970.”
He affirmed that Nigeria’s Unity and Continuous co-existence is at a huge prize which cannot be taken for granted. “What Government is preaching is civility in our speeches as citizens with inciting people or making comments that will divide the nation”, Hon. Bimbo Daramola stated emphatically. He further implored the media to ensure to connect with the finite interpretation of the matter of discourse and help to convince the people on the need for responsibility in thoughts, words and actions.
The famous congressman who came all the way from a National Assignment in Russia to attend the burial ceremony of late Prince Akinola Moses Daramola in Ikere-Ekiti, eulogized the life of the departed prince whose good deeds and discipline is made manifest in his children who are good ambassadors of their family and responsible citizens of the nation.
