NOTHING STRANGE BAFFLES ME - koffi (Comedian)

How would you define a good comedian?
A naturally gifted fellow with wits on end on any subject matter anyday anytime.
Why do you think people fail in comedy?
Am yet to meet a failed comedian however, someone who tries to force it would definitely fail because humour is inert. It is a natural gift.
How did comedy all start for you?
It started back then in school(unilag) i joined "theatre 15" to horn my already established artistry in Mcing events, though i was a chemistry student i took time out to train as a stage actor, dancer and producer.
Tell us about your first time on stage doing comedy, what was it like, how good or bad did you do?
I cant precisely place my first time on stage because it all metamorphed at the same time. I dont recall any moments of stage fright ever either. I just express myself everytime i get the mic.
How challenging was it breaking into limelight? Could you share some of those challenges with us, and how you were able to overcome them.
I never sought fame. I was just opportuned to be on Twilight zone and got an instant liking and fan base that i built upon. No challenges whatsoever i take things the way they come as God disposes.
What do you love about being a comedian?
It affords me the priviledge to speak the truth and still get away with it.
From your point of view, is there anything our present comedy industry is lacking?
It lacks the structure every professional body needs, but pretty soon that will be sorted as it is not a predominant problem with comedy alone but the entertainment industry as a whole.
What is the best thing comedy has brought you?
The means to provide for my family, and gratitude to God for it everyday.
What is comedy yet to do for you?
Comedy owes me nothing. Infact i owe it a few more movies, stage plays. Etc.

Why did you venture into music?
Music is my passion. It affords me the much needed respite. it has taken a while for people to finally see and agree that i do a unique kind of music, devoid of lewdness and is content based. My new album is the 10th album since my first in 2004. I love a fusion of ethnic ideology with modern twinge of hiphop and pop without loosing the essence of who i am traditionally. I call my sound TRADO
My first album 'COMFUSSION' was in 2004 with the hit songs Mumu and Aroma, 2006 brought about 'ABINIBILITY' with hits Green is my home, Aroma remix with 9ice etc, workerman, You dey run? Featuring Yaw,Lepacious, Saeed Mohammed, water pass garri featuring Alibaba, Klint etc, In 2008 i dropped 'TRADoFunkHIPSouL' with songs like Candyman, LoveBite, Officer(which won best Animation video at NMVA), Green Rmx with M.I, African China. After that i decided to hold on with my next album 'ROOT'N'ROLL' and record an album with my music family, Workerman Movement. We released 'ALL EYES OPEN' in 2010 with the hit song 'SPLUFiK' amongst other tunes. We also recorded 'FAMOUS FIVE' which has 'Life na party' etc. Plus my solo albums 'GOSPEL TRUTH' and 'MOTOR MUSIC' album that were also released in 2012. I took time off in 2013 to produce Boomerang's album 'Sweet.Sexy.Sassy' and also released my first ever traditional medley album 'AyindeOkin-Olori Ebi' (An ethnic Apala gyration hip fussion).
Asides comedy, and music what else do you do?
I love to write a lot and till date have produced and directed 4 movies. Amongst which is "The Nanny" which won best comedy movie in 2013 at Abuja International films festival and best of nollywoods awards.
What are you presently working on?
My new album Metamorpho is taking a lot of my time. Been shooting videos and doing promotions. My new movie KABUKI and MUNGO also just got released and am gearing up for my comedy concert Koffi: Out of Control on Nov.8 at Muson.
Tell us about your most embarrassing moment.
Never had never will. Our job acquires some priviledges and recquires some selflessness. Its the gift and the curse that comes with being an entertainer. So nothing strange baffles me. It comes with the terrain.
