Music Meets Fashion And Awards 

Meet Sylvester Orji ,  a young talented and skilled undergraduate whose love for  fashion designing has prompted him into organization the fast rising MUSIC MEETS FASHION AND AWARDS event which takes place in different universities in Nigeria.  In a short Q&A with Micheal Irabor of KINGGS BLOG,  he revealed to us things to expect from the 2015 edition of the MMFA. Enjoy. 

Let's meet you

My names are Agu Sylvester Orji. preferrably called "silver".the second Stubborn Son from a family of 6, 3 blessed Guys, and 3blessed gorgeous girls. Was born in Aba in the mid 80s. Hails from Ohafia L.G.A Abia State. I am a Practising Christian with the ReDeemed Evangelical Mission(TREM)..I am currently a 400l telecommunications & Information Technology Student of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode Ogun State, but  based in Lekki phase1 Lagos State.
Hobbies; tailoring,travelling,thinking & strategizing, and meeting new positive people.

Sylvester Orji Silver 

Before you decided to start this seasonal event,  what were you into?

Well like I said earlier,I am still schooling, but aside from schooling I am a tailor turned designer.

How did the idea of the MMFA all come into existence?

It came from one of the biggest event done in Lagos Nigeria Called "MMR-MusicMeetsRunwaY" always in Eko Hotels. I have always been a great fan of that event but then I said to myself: I think I should start up something like this within  the campuses environment because most students might not be privileged to be at this MMR so that was how it began. I wanted students to have the feeling of the MMR here in school.

Tell us more about the MMFA. 

The Vision is to bring out young talented student. Designers/Models who seek to achieve a better society by cultivating their passions, self image, and Education.
Music Meets Fashion and Awards organization will prepare young people to take on the world as leaders who are aware of the power that drives from fulfilling their purposes, and who use that creativity in them to impact the welfare of humanity.
This organisation will  train and unveil the nation’s most creative entrepreneurs in the fashion industry through an annual state universities fashion shows competition in Nigeria. This system will incorporate months of intensive grooming, coaching and preparation for our student models who will walk on the run-way while showcasing the designs of this great young and upcoming student fashion designers that cumulate with the coronation of a goodwill ambassadors who will represent Ogun State in national/international fashion shows and events.

How long had you been breeding the idea before you finally unveiled it?

Honestly that was since my 200level which was 2yrs ago and to my greatest suprise it has finally became somehting turning out so huge.

How challenging was it organising the first edition?

Hmm I must say this, the first edition was like (lol) You know when a farmer is about to plant a seed, you have to first water the soil, so as to make it easy while planting. So I will say the first ediiton which was held in my own school-TAI SOLARIN UNIVERSITY, Ijebu-Ode,Aug22nd 2014 was cool though. But more can be done.

Tell us,  what should we be expecting from this second edition?

Oh yeah, by the special Grace of God  in heaven,  we  are massively hitting Olabisi Onabanjo University Real BIG! Reason being that, OOU is an Institution widely known to be filled with Social People. They are very social and  also smart people. Anyways this is what you should expect from this 2nd Edition: Great Competition amongst student Designers all over the South West Universities,  which we tagged "CLASH OF THE TITANS",  Awards Recognitions- which was put together to celebrate outstanding young and upcoming youth.  Achievers in the role of Fashion who have toiled with their heart, souL and body in trying their best to attain top in fashin industry.  mind blowing performances.  We went ahead to make sure all participating institutions volunteer just a student Up and coming Artist to represent them on stage during Artist Performances and with that we are so sure its gonna be more or less like a massive competition because no school will love to be intimidated.  Finally on Artist Performances,, We sure gonna suprise the whole congregation as lots of Celebrity A-list Artists to  kill the Show. We  also want to spice it up a bit by having in attendance  well celebrated NollyWood actor-Yemi Solade as well as a Female Fashionista in Nollywood- Mercy Aigbe-Gentry.

Were there any lapses from the last edition you won't want to reoccur, and what were they?

•Sure ,there were lots of lapse my brother.  To mention but a few , I will sincerely say the music performances by students at the last edition were too much.  Trying to supersede that of the fashion runway which was the main reason for the event. So therefore we pray it doesn't occur again.

This is quite a big event. How were you able to raise funds for it?

Hmm, you want to hear the truth? Ok, I will tell you the truth and am starting with this: someone called me from AIT Lagos and this was what she said "Hello sir, I have to say that this your event is getting bigger and bigger, I am really glad because such event much have been sponsored by one big company like [names witheld]and all." Guess what was my reply? I told her categorically which is also my reply to you at this moment " No company or organization  is sponsoring this event. I don write proposal tire plus,  Pakaging it but till now, NO Company was willing to sponsor us  so,  I decided to run it myself and with the help of my school fee which was a. Very big risk for me, I never had a secong thought, I am cuently running this event with my School fees.

After this event,  what next?

Oh nice, after this ediiton,we are moving over to anothe Campus by his grace next year,  and by then we believe we must have a sole sponsor in otherer to have the event come out in a big way and,  with this also I say in the next 5years MUSIC MEETS FASHION AND AWARDS will be a worldwide brand.  As its gonna be recognised just the way Grammy Awards is being recognised.
